How to clean a pet water fountain, step by step

A fountain only stays fresh if you clean it. With the KitbrookPet cordless fountain it takes a few minutes. Here is the routine we recommend. Always check your fountain’s manual first.
How often
- Every few days: empty, rinse and refill.
- Once a week: a full clean, as below.
- Filter: rinse it during each full clean and replace it as the manual recommends.
Full clean in 6 steps
- Unplug the cable and take the fountain apart by hand. Set the control module aside.
- Wipe the control module with a cloth. Never put it in water, and keep the charging port dry.
- Wash the tank, tray and lid in warm, soapy water with a soft sponge or brush. These parts are hand-wash only: they are not dishwasher-safe.
- Rinse the filter in clean water only. No soap.
- Rinse everything well and let it air-dry, or dry it with a clean towel.
- Reassemble and fill above the minimum line. Pick your mode and you’re done.
Small habits that help
- Use sensor mode when you can: the lid closes between drinks, which helps keep fur and dust out of the water.
- Top up with fresh water before the level drops below the minimum line.
- Recharge before the battery runs out so the water keeps moving.
